HPV Toolkit: Vaccine Cost
HPV Fact Zone
How much does the vaccine cost?
The vaccine is given in three doses, each costing $120.
Will my insurance cover it?
If you have private insurance or TennCare, you will need to contact your representative to determine if your policy will cover the HPV vaccine. The vaccine is not currently covered by all insurance programs; however, this is gradually improving.
What if my insurance will not cover the HPV vaccine? How do I get the vaccine covered for my child?
- The Vaccines for Children Program can help with vaccines for children under the age of 19. To be eligible for the program, your child must meet the following requirements:
- Under the age of 19
- Medicaid eligible, American Indian, Alaska native or uninsured
- Also possible to use this program if private insurance will not cover vaccinations, but other criteria is met
- Check with your local health department to see if they give the vaccine for free, or offer it on a sliding scale based on income.
- If you do not have insurance or qualify for the assistance programs, it may be best to wait and see if insurance coverage improves. In some states, it is mandatory for insurance companies to mandate the vaccine. While this is not true in Tennessee, it is becoming more common for insurance companies to add the vaccine to coverage. Another incentive to wait if your insurance company does not currently cover the vaccine is that a competing product is likely to come out soon that will help to push the current price down.
